Case Study

Logistics Integration and Visibility Platform with MS Power BI

Absence of common shipment data (carrier and customer) platform was resulting in lack of visibility and delays in invoice reconciliation/payment process.

End to End visibility is a critical success factor for any Logistics business and this was achieved using Microsoft Power BI.

Client Background

Tricon Logistics (now Visible SCM), a full-service US supply chain solution provider is using a mix of systems (SaaS TMS, CW1) but did not have a common platform to see the data from all systems. Microsoft Power BI is being leveraged to get all the data from various systems including spreadsheets in one common interface.

Challenge

  • Absence of common shipment data (carrier and customer) platform was resulting in lack of visibility and delays in invoice reconciliation/payment process.
  • Client was unable to analyze data and focus on processes that can be optimized to reduce costs.

IT Solution

Power BI Dashboards were developed to provide end-2-end visibility and transparency of entire shipment data.

Results

  • Achieved end-to-end visibility
  • Invoice reconciliation happening every week which used to be months in some cases before the Power BI solution
  • Accounts receivable process is streamlined
  • Data being analyzed to potentially increase revenue and profitability – Tricon Logistics (now Visible SCM) is a happy consumer of Microsoft Power BI

Proof of Concept to Production

Proof of concept to Tricon Logistics needed end-to-end visibility & the capability to drill-down to view the data at an atomic level. The business need was to get the data from a variety of data sources (multiple relational databases, multiple spreadsheets) and then create various views depending on the user access of the shipment and invoice data.

Journey to Production was a major one with collective expertise of Tricon Logistics & SwiftAnt – deep collaboration with the purpose of Co-Creating Digital Transformation was at display.

Teams tested various scenarios to build reports and dashboards that met the business needs. Business users were able to get the reports for details of not only what has happened but also analyze what should they be in doing in terms of optimizing internal processes, looking at opportunities to grow business, possibilities to reduce cost, and work with external partners (customers and shippers) to streamline processes

Client Speak

Getting visibility of our supply chain data thru Power BI Dashboards have helped us immensely in making important decisions based on real-time data. Go-live of dashboards within weeks of project initiation has been a true blessing.
